Two biogas plants in development in the UK. Both benefit from UK government incentives.

In January 2018 following the successful development of our Tansterne Biomass plant, Solar 21 expanded into biogas technology. Biogas is a renewable energy formed from the natural breakdown of organic material in a process called anaerobic digestion. The high-energy gas produced can be converted to heat or injected into the national gas grid. Solar 21 began development of two 2.7MWe biogas plants both of which will avail of UK Government incentive schemes for the production of biomethane gas.Biomethane-producing plants are eligible for the non-domestic Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI). Under this scheme, the UK government will pay eligible installations an incentive per cubic metre of biomethane and MWth (megawatt thermal) of heat produced. Payments will be index-linked for 20 years.

36%
36% of the UK’s renewable energy comes from biogas.
97%
Biogas plants produce 97% methane which is comparable to natural gas.
